What really excites me about my role at Suffolk is being part of a leadership team whose goal is to fundamentally change the building experience. The physical spaces in which we work, live, and play have a profound impact on our well-being. The opportunity to use information analysis techniques (considered by many to be very abstract and esoteric) to have a meaningful impact on the lives of many is where I find meaning in my work.

I love travelling! I’ve lived in Asia, America and Europe and enjoyed my time on all three continents. My personal passion is exploration, followed closely by reflection—learning from other perspectives to shape my own path.

Another passion of mine is food and wellness, and I’m interested in supporting organizations that give children the opportunity to be meaningfully involved in sustainable agriculture and the natural environment. School gardens, for example, are becoming popular as a way of educating children about the food cycle. I have also taken an interest in other programs that involve community farms, urban gardens, etc.

For ones that are making an impact now, I’d pick image recognition and digital collaboration technology. Image recognition is now a mature consumer technology, and its application to construction has really taken off. From 360 cameras that can frictionlessly document the photo-record of truth, to automatic recognition of safety hazards, quality defects, even onto productivity tracking, I think image recognition has established its place in the construction tool set. In terms of future opportunities, I see more data and AI applications coming to market. Predictive analytics for example, has real potential to help mitigate risk, and the insurance industry is starting to pay attention. Simulations and parametric computation can help augment expertise and simplify laborious calculations. I believe we will see more such applications come to market in the future.

When I was transitioning into a leadership role, I really enjoyed the book Conscious Business—How to build value through values. It describes organizations as conscious communities that are collectively committed to achieving a vision that exceeds any individual’s capacities. The book also provides a roadmap for developing into an authentic and inspirational leader. I’m still learning from this book to this day.
