Our internship program
Suffolk’s internship program gathers students from across the country who think outside the box and thrive on finding new ways to address challenges. Summer internships run for 10-12 weeks.
Participants gain experience in construction operations and support functions to shape their careers in the construction industry. It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity to gain hands-on experience and learn from the best in the industry.

Our Career Start program
Career Start is Suffolk’s two-year rotational program for recent college graduates who are passionate about the opportunity to grow their career in construction management. Career Start builds the future leaders of the organization, who will redefine what is possible in the industry and change the skylines of our cities.
The program, which accepts an incoming class each July, is made up of a national cohort across each of our regions. Career Starts complete three rotations geared at mastering the fundamentals of estimating, project management, and field operations.

Estimating
Learn the fundamentals of preconstruction by reading plans and drawings, selecting trade partners, assembling bids, and engaging with the technology and systems we use to build a project estimate.

Project Management
Work with our team and gain a deep understanding of the project manager’s role within each critical area of project management. Gain experience with budgets and schedules, management of contractual requirements, change orders, RFIs, submittals, and the other building blocks of running a project.

Field Operations
Discover the technical fundamentals of building by working with superintendents at all levels and trade partners to ensure a safe, quality project is delivered on time.

Operational Excellence Academy
This six-week, on-the-job onboarding program for new operations employees focuses on familiarizing you with what is unique and special about Suffolk. You’ll learn how Suffolk operates, what is expected of you in your specific role, and how your role interacts with your team across the different stages of Suffolk’s unique project lifecycle.
New employees also discover the tools in Suffolk’s technology suite, learn how to access help when you need it, and have a chance to practice new skills.

Role Clarity
At Suffolk, we understand the importance of having clear expectations of your role. That clarity makes it possible to thrive in your role and feel empowered to take your skills and career to the next level. We’ve made it a priority to clearly define the competencies and responsibilities for each role in construction operations, so our people know what’s expected of them and what higher positions they can pursue. We back up those expectations with extensive developmental supports, including role-based training and mentoring.

Role-Based Curriculum
Suffolk provides an extensive Role-Based Curriculum with tailored learning opportunities for each role that go beyond formal training. The curriculum includes practical applications like stretch assignments, coaching and mentoring, peer-to-peer cross-functional learning, and more. You’re empowered to own your career, and your managers have the tools they need to support you.

New Manager Series
This three-day program—with ongoing learning—teaches techniques to help employees become more effective leaders. Managers that are new to Suffolk or recently promoted into supervisory roles learn critical skills like coaching, difficult conversations, delegation, and managing and motivating diverse teams.
