What is the most exciting thing about working in this business? What is your professional passion?

I love seeing the transformation of the people I work with and the relationships that we build, not only with our project team but with our trade partners as well. Playing even a small role in that development is very rewarding. Also, we get to build some really cool things, and being able to point to these projects and say "I had something to do with that" is an awesome feeling.

My professional passion is safety; it is our responsibility to ensure every person who comes to the job site returns home to their families safely, and I take that very seriously.

What is your favorite community cause or philanthropic organization to support and why?

Big Brothers Big Sisters. The difference you can make for a child in need is unbelievable; it doesn't take much to change someone else's life, just time and compassion.

What was your favorite family experience?

My family and I rented an RV and drove from Portland, Oregon to Mount Rushmore. My wife and I brought our three daughters along with my niece, our exchange student and our neighbor. Seven wonderful women and me, driving across the country for two weeks. Best time of my life!

What sport did you play and how did it help you professionally?

I played football and baseball. I think sports are critical to teaching a lot of the skills you need later in life: how to persevere despite struggles, how to collaborate with others, how to be a gracious winner, and maybe most importantly, how to have each others' back. The camaraderie learned through sports is priceless.

What book has helped you most in your career?

What Got You Here Won't Get You There by Marshall Goldsmith. This advice rings true as you progress through your career. You have to constantly evolve, and just because something worked before doesn't mean it will work next time.
