What is the most exciting thing about working in this business? What is your professional passion?
For me, large scale general contracting is intellectually fascinating because of the scope of issues involved. These issues range from land use, political and financing challenges on the front-end, through to the design, sourcing, and project management challenges of active projects. Suffolk has proven to be exceptionally good at tying this all together, which creates the opportunity for continued growth and influence.

Who was your mentor/biggest influence and what did they teach you?
In my first job after business school, I was very fortunate to receive excellent mentorship on strategy and leadership skills. My approach to business problems is still heavily influenced by that experience. I can never repay my former mentors for their contributions, but I aspire to make a similar contribution to the generation of managers that I support.

Name a technology you wish existed or one that was recently created and you started using. Explain.
The organization of activities and allocation of risk across the construction supply chain have been relatively static for decades. Numerous advancements in design and procurement technology enable a reorganization of these activities in ways that could dramatically lower total construction cost. The most significant innovations in the near-term are likely to be process and contracting changes that take full advantage of the possibilities that newer technologies offer. At Suffolk, we are very passionate about playing a leadership role in this technology-led transformation of the construction industry.

What sport did you play and how did it help you professionally?
I played soccer in college. I wanted to go as far as I could with the sport because I enjoyed intense competition and teamwork, but my athletic ability was well-below most collegiate players. So for me, continuing to play was an issue of trying to overcome my deficiencies through extra training and effort.

What do you love to do when you aren’t at work? What is your personal passion and why?
My passions outside of work include running, movies, boating, international travel and Notre Dame football.
