Scott Potter

What is your personal passion and how does that apply to your role at Suffolk?
Creating something that I can someday tell my children (and maybe grandchildren), “I had a part in building that.” That is what drives me in this business and what attracted me to construction in the first place when I was young. I am a history nerd so leaving behind my own little piece of history in this world is important to me.

What was your favorite family experience?
As a child, we always took summer vacations on Cape Cod. Spending the week with my parents and two sisters, playing on the beach and going to the drive-in theater are all cherished memories for me. I now look forward to creating similar memories with my own family.

What sport did you play and how did it help you professionally?
I played football and was a swimmer. I think any sport or extra-curricular activity reinforces discipline, teamwork, and leadership, which are all essential elements in growing professionally and as a person.

What is your favorite quote?
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Who was your mentor/biggest influence and what did they teach you?
My mother, because she gave me life, taught me to be a good man, work hard, love others, and reach for my dreams. She inspires me every day with her strength. And my dad, who passed away when I was young, always taught me to be a leader not a follower. I am the man I am today because of these early values that my parents instilled in me.
