Girls have ideas that can change the world. But women make up only 9.9 percent of the industry that builds it. It’s time to rebuild the ratio.
At Suffolk, we want to change the statistics of how many girls pursue a career in STEM fields. We want their ideas to have a chance to breathe, to grow, to become possible. We want to rebuild the ratio of women in construction. That’s why—in alignment with Women in Construction Week and International Women’s Day—we’re pledging to increase the percentage of women Suffolk employs from 28 percent to 38 percent over 10 years. And, to provide the resources and education that young women and girls need to pursue STEM careers, we’re partnering with two leading national nonprofits: Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts and YouthBuild Boston. Together, we’ll offer a custom STEM and construction curriculum to encourage the next generation of engineers and builders, and we’ll scale this program nationally over the next 10 years.
