Father who built Mass. school watches daughter break ground for new one
A Massachusetts city held a groundbreaking on Friday for a new futuristic high school that its says will provide a 21st century learning environment.
Officials gathered Friday afternoon at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School in Fall River to mark the beginning of construction to replace the nearly six decade old building.
Maureen Murphy with Suffolk Construction will act as the lead for the company, who was chosen as the contractor.
Suffolk says Maureen's dad, Gerry Murphy, was project superintendent with Wescott Construction when the current school was built 55 years ago.
His daughter Maureen said she was inspired by her dad to pursue a career in construction.
The 87-year-old Murphy made the trip from Florida back to Massachusetts to be on hand for Friday's groundbreaking.
If all goes according to schedule, the school is set to open in 2026.
