What is the most exciting thing about working in this business? What is your professional passion?

The most gratifying thing about working in this business is the ability to build teams and develop younger professionals by empowering them and providing them growth opportunities. Today’s young professionals have so much to offer our company, industry, fellow colleagues and clients as long as they’re given the right opportunities and mentors.

What do you love to do when you aren’t at work? What is your personal passion and why?

When I have the opportunity to unplug, I enjoy teaching my four children about the outdoors—the opportunities to enjoy the outdoors are endless. Watching my kids get hooked on the excitement and fun of fishing or skiing is a great thing to see. I also enjoy tinkering with antique tractors. Getting a 70-year-old piece of equipment to run again is both a mental and physical challenge that is very rewarding for me.

What was your favorite family experience?

I have four children, two boys by birth and two adopted girls (siblings) from Bulgaria. The process of integrating all our children into one cohesive family unit has taken a lot of time and energy. We recently went on a family vacation and it was incredible to see all the kids interact like true siblings. It was an amazing and memorable milestone for our family.

What innovation have you seen in the construction industry that has made the most impact?  Where do you see the opportunity for further innovation?

The continuous development of mobile technology, in conjunction with evolving document management and VDC applications, has given the industry an opportunity to work smarter and more efficiently. There are endless opportunities where these technologies can be applied to improve the project life-cycle. I also see endless innovation opportunities to integrate Big Data into our processes to more accurately predict the cost and schedule of projects in the conceptual phase, which will help mitigate risks for the client and the builder.

What sport did you play and how did it help you professionally?

Throughout middle and high school I participated in wrestling, football, and track and field.  Participating in sports taught me invaluable lessons about teamwork, discipline and perseverance. These lessons continue to help me throughout my career while working with various teams and clients.
